Reetha nuts, also known as Soap nuts, leave brown to blackish stains on white fabrics and hence they are not used on white fabrics.
Soap nuts belong to the genus Sapindus and grows on small trees in the Lychee family. They are normally found in the temperate and tropical regions. The genus name of Sapindus is derived from Sapo meaning ‘soap, and Indus meaning ‘from India’.
