Answer:-

Respiration:-

  • It is a process by which we get energy from the food we eat.
  • During this process, the carbohydrates formed during the breaking down of food into simpler substances, is broken down to form glucose.
  • The glucose along with the oxygen is provided to the cells of a body so that they can function properly.
  • This provides energy to all the cells in our body.
  • The waste products like carbon dioxide which is produced by the cells is given out from the body in the process through the action called breathing.
  • C6H12O6 + 6 O2 ➜ 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy
  • Hence, as in this process heat is released, it is called an exothermic process.

Photosynthesis:-

  • It is a process of formation of food done by the plants.
  • In this process, the light energy is absorbed by the chlorophyll and is converted to a chemical energy.
  • The water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen and Carbon dioxide is reduced to form carbohydrates.
  • The carbohydrate form is used as an energy source by the plants.
  • 6 CO2 + 12 H2O ( sunlight + chlorophyll ) ➜ C6H12O6 + 6 H2O + 6 O2
  • As in this process energy is absorbed to form carbohydrates, it is called as an endothermic process.
