Answer:-
Respiration:-
- It is a process by which we get energy from the food we eat.
- During this process, the carbohydrates formed during the breaking down of food into simpler substances, is broken down to form glucose.
- The glucose along with the oxygen is provided to the cells of a body so that they can function properly.
- This provides energy to all the cells in our body.
- The waste products like carbon dioxide which is produced by the cells is given out from the body in the process through the action called breathing.
- C6H12O6 + 6 O2 ➜ 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + energy
- Hence, as in this process heat is released, it is called an exothermic process.
Photosynthesis:-
- It is a process of formation of food done by the plants.
- In this process, the light energy is absorbed by the chlorophyll and is converted to a chemical energy.
- The water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen and Carbon dioxide is reduced to form carbohydrates.
- The carbohydrate form is used as an energy source by the plants.
- 6 CO2 + 12 H2O ( sunlight + chlorophyll ) ➜ C6H12O6 + 6 H2O + 6 O2
- As in this process energy is absorbed to form carbohydrates, it is called as an endothermic process.
