The National Kidney Federation explains that the most common reasons one kidney is larger than the other include congenital dysplasia, reflux nephropathy, kidney infection and blood starvation in the smaller kidney. such as glomerulonephritis also cause a kidney to become smaller

Left kidney is slightly higher and larger than the right kidney because of the presence of liver in the right side which is a big organ.

Due to the presence of liver in right side of our body ; there is a little space remaining for the kidney as compared to another side.

Hence , for the same reason ; the right kidney ; having a little difference in size.

Additional information :

  • Kidneys' main function is purification of blood and removal of nitrogenous waste.

  • Liver's function is to filter up the blood that comes from digestive system before getting transported to other parts.

  • Liver secretes bile juice.
