The Munro system of land revenue was a system that was commonly termed as the Ryotwari system. The system was officially introduced for the first time by Thomas Munro within the country at the time when India was under the British Rule.

Some of the advantages of Munro system as compared to Permanent system of land revenue were:-

• The system was designed in such a way that the farmers had to pay the land revenue and tax directly to the British Government.

• Unlike permanent system, which was set at a fixed rate of taxation, Munro system was set such that the farmers had to pay half of the value of the crop cultivated by them that was paid as revenue.

• The revenue would also not be changed for a time period of thirty years.
