Produced in salivary glands, saliva is 98% water, but it contains manyimportant substances, including electrolytes, mucus, antibacterial compounds and various enzymes. Thedigestive functions of saliva include moistening food, and helping to create a food bolus, so it can be swallowed easily.

saliva lubricates or softens the food that entered the mouth and hence the food can easily pass through oesophagus and continue digestion ☺☺☺
