saliva is said to be an antiseptic because

  • of presence of various enzyme , which are helpful in killing harmful microbes .
  • lysozymal enzyme-they create pores on the bacterial cell wall because of which bacteria dies.
  • immunoglobulin A-igA antibodies are found in saliva and protect oral cavity from carcinogenic microorganism.
  • lactoferrin-as bacteria use iron for their nutrition ,lactoferrin  binds with iron making it unavailable for bacteria.
