Shylock apprently takes time to consider bassanios request as he wants to keep bassanio in suspense increasing his eagerness his deliberation wheather to accept Antonio's surety may be assumed partly to avoid suspicion and party to enable him to enjoy the luxury of causing the hatred anxiety and humiliation
