why is solid carbon dioxide called dry ice

Solid carbon dioxide is called dry ice because it looks like ice and when it undergoes sublimation it gets converted into gas straight from solid without undergoing liquid state.

Dry ice is solid form of carbon dioxide.
when we frizz carbon dioxide at their frizzing point it get frizz . and it is used to prevent cold beverages. like arrested drink, ice cream.
