Why is that different food and non food crops are grown in India?

It has a lot of land useful for agriculture and people skilled with agriculture... Also India has a huge population.. At first to fulfill their demands, India grows crops..Then comes the second reason that India has a vast export field of non food crops like tea, jute, silk etc and too of the food crops to abroad.
