Mucous moistens the incoming air by trapping dust particles or any other unwanted substance while Hair present in nostrils warms the incoming air to that of body temperature.

the air passing through nostrils is moist and warm because of mucous.
the hair in nostrils clean the air.

how it happens?

the air is dry when it is taken in. the mucous is in liquid form i.e there are water molecules present.
these water molecules attach themselves to the molecules of air.
hence the air gets moist.
it gets warm because of the temperature of our body.

when dirt particles enter nostrils along with air and the hair inside nostrils block their passage.
