Auxiliary memory, also known asauxiliary storage, secondary storage, secondary memory or externalmemory, is a non-volatile memory(does not lose stored data when the device is powered down) that is not directly accessible by the CPU, because it is not accessed via the input/output channels (it is an external device).
The best example of auxiliary storage is hard disk drives andoptical storage media like CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray. Other auxiliary storage belongs to the peripheral devices category as well, such as flash drives and any type of memory card.
