The beginning of cultivation regarded as a landmark in the history of human progress
Explanation:
- Many regard cultivation as the very origin of culture itself. Humans were hunter-gatherers before being cultivators. This meant that they were nomadic, pursuing "herds of animals" or "plants that were available", and that they were at the ""mercy of the food availability & the environment .
- Cultivation has changed it and has provided humans with the opportunity to control nature and the environment, for the first time in history. With food being deliberately grown, people can settle and "gather". They could construct permanent settlements and structures that led to first cities.
- Furthermore, farming resulted in food surpluses, which allowed animals to be kept and people to focus their efforts on other activities such as warfare, creativity, & building. Without culture, civilizations would not be able to observe patterns, reflect on life, & create mathematics & science.
- In order to cultivate, a calendar system was also needed. To understand the growing and harvesting seasons, it was important to learn how to measure days and years. This necessity led to the development of records, astronomy, advanced mathematics, and numerous other sciences.
