why is the bore of a thermometer so narrow?

Bore of thermometer is long and narrow because to identify temperature we need a narrow base and size and figure like it could measure easily.i.e. narrow bore have less surface area and so that it will show greater true and fast results .Thee narrow bore faster the process of conduction to measure the temperature .

There are some other concepts like capillarity effect, surface tension effects.
But for now just note that a thermometer with a narrow bore is more responsive and sensitive than a similar thermometer with wider bore for the same temperature difference
