our habits of hygiene and cleanliness have not kept pace with environmental, sociological and technological changes. I don't think Indians are unclean culturally or any such foolish arguments, but similar to other aspects, our habits are not in synch with other social changes.
And that causes many problems including but not limited to
- poor health,
- poor nutrition and growth rates
- poor maintenance of infrastructure
- impact to internal and external tourism
- impact to economy directly and indirectly from the above - which in turn impacts the above adversely - causing a vicious feedback loop
So we do need to address it. And so would any other country.
Inculcating such values is a way of prevention at source, rather than a govt. cure. So I want, wish and hope it succeeds.
