Why is the cell membrane more permeable to potassium than sodium?

The cell membrane is 100 times more permeable to potassium than sodium. The concentration of sodium is highest in extracellular fluid whilepotassium is highest in intracellular fluid. Cell membranes become lesspermeable to molecules as they increase in size as well as charge or polarity.
