why is the chemical formula for water H2O and for sodium chloride NaCl why not HO2 and NaCl 2

the chemical formula for water is H2O becoz it has the combination of both oxygen & hydrogen molecules...if the oxygen & hydrogen would become joined in certain measurements it should be possible for producing a water...bt the efficiency of input is higher than the output..hence we don't use tis...& also important thing hydrogen is easily flammable..hence we should avoid tis...all the chemical formula had certain background..most of the came from latin or greek word.
