Answer:

oxidation of ethanol is done in presence of an oxidizing agent which supplies nascent oxygen

so this is called oxidation

CH3CH2OH+[O] -> CH3COOH ( in presence of KMnO4/Dil.H2SO4)

A molecule of ethanol contains six hydrogen atoms while that of ethanoic acid contains four hydrogen atoms since oxidation involves removal of hydrogen, therefore conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid is an oxidation reaction.
