The Calvin cycle is also called dark reactions or light-independent reactions because it doesn't need sunlight to happen. ... So although the cycle itself doesn't use light energy, it does depend on the light reactions to provide it with ATP and NADPH.

Answer: first of all it is calvij cycle and it is known as dark reaction because it dont need sun light. In dark time the plant make sugar molecule and use ATP and NADH from other light reactions. But it us not directly involved in light use so called as dark reaction
