To native speakers this is quite straight forward, but I have noticed in Thailand that many people with a very good understanding of English as a second language, have trouble with this past tense of verbs generally, and will say things like…” when I was young, I listen to the radio every day”…of course it should be “ listened “ in this case, when we are talking about the past…not all verbs take this form but try to get to know the ones that do….and when you are pronouncing some of the ‘ed’ (past tense) words, you need to remember that a word such as ‘barked’ is pronounced as BARK-T, not bark-ed, but listened is pronounced LISSIN-D.
