Since the refraction takes place .. the incident ray appears to be in a straight line in a rectangular glass slab .. the emergent ray ( which is the refracted ray of the incident ray ) tends to be parallel as it moves towards the normal while entering and moves away the normal while exiting the glass slab .. hope it helps.
