Bt Toxins are insect group specific, the toxin is coded by a gene named Cry
There are number of them, for eg: the proteins encoded by the genes cry1Ac and cryIIAb control cottonball worms, that of cryI Ab control corn borer
Cry gene produces proteins, cry proteins which is dissociated into small pieces during alkaline condition and becm toxic
Due to alkaline condition of insects intestine, cry protein is poison for insects. It binds on insect's intestine and make pores
Hope this helps
