Why is the mother goddess Durga technically childless?
Answers
There is a story in Skandpurana to state the reason of Parvati being a childless goddess. Once, lord Shankara and goddess Parvati were spending quality time and Parvati was ovulating. When Parvati was away for some time, lord Shankara started Tandava dance and danced rigorously. When he was at the peak of energy, he lost his semen(virya) which fell on ground (goddess Prithvi, earth). When Parvati returned and saw that, she misunderstood that goddess Prithvi made shiva to lose his semen. She became furious and cursed goddess Prithvi that she would be conceived by many Kings on the earth. Hearing this, goddess Prithvi responded - 'I did not make lord Shiva to lose his semen but without knowing the fact, you cursed me. So here I curse you - you will never bear child'. So Parvati was suffering with this curse. Same story has reference in 'Kashipurana'.
