It is true that the Earth revolves around the Sun in an elliptical Orbit. In fact most of the celestial bodies and artificial satellites too revolve in elliptical orbits only.
Sun is at one focus of the elliptical or oval orbit of Earth.
The farthest distance of Earth from The Sun is : 152 million km. The nearest distance of Earth from the Sun is 147 million km. The difference is just 5 million km. This is about 0.03 th of the distance. So the orbit is nearly circular.
For simplicity we say that Earth revolves in a circular orbit. It applies to some artificial satellites or some other planets and moons.
The scientific analysis and computations by space scientists always use the correct elliptical orbit.
