why is the north-south extent of India more than its west-east extent (in kms) though the latitudinal and longitudinal extent in degrees are same?Explain.

The north - south extent of India is likely to be more than west - east extent though they are equal as since the east side Arunachal Pradesh is extended towards east sometimes when we see India map it is seen in such a manner.
