Why is the one end of drawing pin kept wide, but the other end very sharp?

So, that it easily pierce because smaller the area more the pressure will be exerted ..

one end is kept sharp for smaller the area the larger the pressureis produced..so the sharp size will enter the wall easily..hope it helped u
