1. RTE aims at providing free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6- 14 years as a fundamental right.
2. it is mandated by article 21 A in the constitution of India.
3. it is compulsory for private schools to reserve 25% of seats at the entry level for children belonging to weaker sections.
4. since it is a progressive policy that aims to take education to the masses it is considered as a landmark.
