Answer:

The speaker is in a dilemma because he listens to the chirpy little cuckoo's two-fold shout, which passes from one place to the other, but it seems to him only a wandering voice; the speaker cannot seek the sight the cuckoo. In his nostalgic school-boy days, he used to listen to that voice. He looked a thousand ways: in the bush, the sky, the tree, but still he couldn't attain the sight of the cuckoo. He would eagerly welcome the cuckoo thrice, he would lie down on the plain, just to hear the new-comer's voice.
