The sun is called the ultimate source of energy because:

  • Sun is the primary source of light for all the planets. On earth, solar energy is trapped and used as a non-renewable source of energy for the generation of electricity.
  • The solar energy given by the sun is used up by the plants in the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis releases oxygen into the atmosphere as the end product. Hence we can say that the sun is an indirect source of oxygen to living beings.
  • Direct sunlight is a source of vitamin D that is required by the human body.
