The basin extends over states of Haryana and Rajasthan and lies between 69°13’ to 77°15’ east longitudes and 25°31’ to 29°44’ north latitudes. It is bounded by the Punjab plains on the north and east, by Aravalli range on the south and by Thar Desert on the west. Small rivers draining into the basin are the Kantu, the Kakni, the Ghugri and the Sukri. The major part of basin is covered with agricultural land accounting to 64.15% of the total area and 0.4% of the basin is covered by water bodies. The basin spreads over 16 parliamentary constituencies (2009) comprising 7 of Haryana and 9 of Rajasthan.
