So that it is convenient to sew. If it is sharp it easily enters into the cloth. If its blunt then it be hard as a result we should apply more force.

The tip of the needle is sharp so as to maximise pressure. Pressure is inversely proportional to area of contact. So in a needle, the area of contact is kept minimum to concentrate all the force at one point and easily pierce through objects.
