2)Iodine is required for the proper functioning of thyroid.

3) Iodine stimulates the thyroid gland & produce thyroxin hormone.

4) This hormone regulates carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism in our body.

The ingestion of iodine prevents iodine deficiency. Worldwide, iodine deficiency affects about two billion people and is the leading preventable cause of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Goiter is caused due to deficiency of iodine.
