Venus is the hottest planet even though planet Mercury is closest to the sun.

Because Venus has surface temperatures of up to 900 degrees and closer to the sun after Mercury and therefore, it has the highest average surface temperature. it has a high-pressure atmosphere.

When sunlight penetrates Venus’s atmosphere, it does not have enough energy to leave and thus an oven is created.

Due to this, planet Venus has no water.

Venus is hotter due to the greenhouse effect: Venus has an atmosphere about ninety times thicker than that of Earth, and made almost entirely of carbon dioxide, which is one of the gasses that causes the greenhouse effect on Earth.

The greenhouse effect on Venus is so great that it raises the surface temperature on Venus to, as you say, hotter than that of Mercury, despite being farther from the sun.
