1) In the electrolysis of water, the gas collected at cathode is : Hydrogen
and at Anode is :oxygen
2)The gas which is collected in double amount during the electrolysis is Hydrogen. This is because water contains two parts of element as compared to one part of oxygen element by volume.

Answer: the electrolysis is performed to split the constituents of water which is composed of 2 atoms of hydrogen and 1 atom of oxygen hence hydrogen is double than oxygen and the two electrodes collect h2 and o2 seperately hence one electrode volume is double than the other

Explanation:

In the electrolysis of water, the gas collected at cathode is : Hydrogen and at Anode is oxygen The gas which is collected in double amount during the electrolysis is Hydrogen. This is because water contains two parts of element as compared to one part of oxygen element by volume.
