The systematic naming of living organism makes a uniform way of identification of vast diversity of life around us. Scientific name is unique and can be used to identify an organism any where in the world. Binomial nomenclature proposed by Carolus Linnaeus provides method of such scientific naming for living organism.

Binomial nomenclature for species has the effect that when a species is moved from one genus to another, sometimes the specific name or epithet must be changed as well. This may happen because the specific name is already used in the new genus, or to agree in gender with the new genus.
