why is there no change in propagation of light when a light ray comes directly at the normal?

Refraction is the bending oflight rays. Normally, light travels in astraight line, and changes direction and speed when it passes from one transparent medium to another, such as from air into glass. ... However, when light encounters a transparent material, it slows down.
