Why is there shrinkage of forest cover in india? What precautions can be taken to reduce this shrinkage?

forest shrinkage can be due to following reasons;                                    1.mining
 2.human settlements
 3.construction of dams
 4.construction of roads and infrastructure
 5.heavy usage of forest products.....etc
Precautions include:
1.afforestation and reforestation                                                      2.alternate for forest products like plastic furniture instead of wooden furniture
3.encroachments should be strictly restricted
