Dichloroacetic acid is a stronger acid than chloroacetic acid because the two chlorine atoms inductively withdraw more electron density from the O—H group than a single chlorine atom. The pKa of dichloroacetic acid is therefore smaller than the pKa of chloroacetic acid.
