The universe had been expanding ever since the big bang, the first inflation occurred within fraction of a second from the initial singularity. There is no center of expansion.
Expansion was first observed by Edwin Hubble, due to redshift.
Currently, as researchers have found, universe is not only expanding, but its rate of expansion is accelerating too, which has crossed the speed of light. It is proposed that this quirky behavior of s-t fabric is due to DARK ENERGY present in it.
Nomenclature: Dark energy , as the name suggests, is dark aka we don't know much about it.
