why is upper surface of leaf fewer stomata

To reduce the amount of transpiration.

All surfaces of plants that are in The air have some stomata but leaf surfaces have the most because this is were photosynthesis is occurring .The underside of leaves have more than upper surface because less evaporation will take place in the cooler ,shady underside of the leaf .
