Why is variation beneficial to the species but not necessary for the individual ?
Answers
Answer:
Because when there is any unfavorable condition and a large population dies, if there is a variation in some individuals, the chances of survival of the species increases. For example, there is a species of bacteria which is suited to cold climate and the temperature increases due to global warming, a large population will die but if there is variation in some of the individuals to withstand hot temperatures they might survive and continue the species. Thus the species is benefited but not exactly the individual.
Answer:
The chances of Survival for a Single Individual is very Low in nature & Probablity for Transfer for that Particular Variation in That Paryicular individual is also Very low....So there are Very Less chances Of Inheritance of New Character from a Single Individual to His Progeny because It may be Possible that Somehow She could not get pregnant or Fails to give Birth to her progency or If Baby Birth Occurs then there are Chances That He/she could not survive.....But uf Variation Occurs in Whole of the Species of that particular Animal then there are Maximum Chances of inheritance of New Characters to their next Generation.
Hope it Helps
