Why is viruses an expection for cell theory

Virus is an exception to the cell theory because virus is a protein structure which only shows its life processes once it enters a host.

According to cell theory anything which shows life processes is only living.
But the virus does not show it until it enters a host..

viruses dont come under the cell theory the main reason for this is that they are just a connecting link between the living and non living that is they are not completely alive
