why is vishakhapatnam called vizag?

Answer:

vishakhapatnam got it's name from Lord vishakeswara temple ( also known as Lord karthikeya ,second son of Lord Shiva ) now located beneath the seawater. This, vishakhapatnam became vijagapatnam and in short Vizag. The citizens of vishakhapatnam came to be known as Vizagites.
