why is water not used instead of mercury in thermometers when it is easily available to us??

Hey,
Mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature.
It's used inthermometers because it has high coefficient of expansion. Hence, the slightest change in temperature is notable when it's used in athermometer. It also has a high boiling point which makes it very suitable to measure higher temperatures.

Water is not used in thermometer but water ,BCS
it has a higher Melting npoint that mercury ....water has 0°c as melting point point whereas mercury has melting point of -38.8°c ....So mercury has the lesser one ....
