Why is West Bengal called West bengal, though it is in the east of India? I don't want copied answers! Answer only if you know!


Anonymous: It was because, before, west bengal was a part of Bangladesh, in th west. Then after the seperation, it became a part of india

before sepration of india and pakistan 
the bangladesh and west bengal are one
after sepration it is called west bengal because it is the west part of bengal

before independence when bangladesh was a part of india....there was only one place called Bengal which included pesent west bengal and bangladesh but after the partition of bengal it was divided into two parts one was called East Bengal and another was called west bengal ....though it's not in the west ....it was called so as it is west to bangladesh(East Bengal). the eastern part joined Pakistan as East Bengal(Later called east pakistan)and gave rise to present Bangladesh.
