why is xylem called a dead tissue ?????

xylem is dead tissue as it consists of dead cells which r meant for the conduction of water

vasudharaj: xylem is a dead tissue because its main organells(mithochondria eta) are missing. by that it becomes space efficient and doesnt use up the waker for its own metabolic functions

vasudharaj: if these cells actually die then they form another layer of the bark
vasudharaj: the cells cannot actually be dead orelse they wont perform their fuctions their are few protective cells which are dead because they dont let the other virus or anything harm themselves and there fore not harming the actual living cells in the plant
