Why is Yoke laminated in DC machines?

Yoke is something that provides support to the stator windings that are DC powered (with constant field)in case of DC machines.DC current produces constant magnetic field. ... Hence the armature core consists of several plates laminated and placed together in order to avoid the eddy currents.
