The basic principle behind our watches is the simple harmonic motion of the watch's pendulum. The time period of pendulum is dependent on gravity and hence in the absence of gravity, the watch mechanism will not function.

Time is space will move faster or slower based on our position and speed. Space time is curved and warped by matter and energy hence it become difficult to tell time in space. That’s why NASA uses atomic clocks to calculate time in space.

Some time, the time will go faster when astronauts gets near a massive object in space that is because of the gravitational force that bends space time which is actually known as the gravitational time dilation phenomenon.

Time moves slower when gravity increases but time moves faster when there is no gravity.
