Skating is easier on snow as compared to other surfaces because of the fact that the snow offers very low friction compared to other surfaces, which makes it easier to skate, the resistance to motion being less.

Moreover, due to the prevailing temperature-pressure conditions, a layer of water may be present above the snow too which can further lower the friction. This low friction value ultimately helps and eases the skating experience.

It is easier to perform skating on snow because there is less friction between both the surfaces and it is more maneuverable for the skater. The law of thermodynamics can be applied in this case which makes movement easy. Also, a film of water is apparently existing on the layer of snow that enhances faster and easier movement without slipping.
