why it is said that sea water is used even though it's not potable

Sea WATER is not suitable to drink as it contains salts and dust and dirt too. So it is not convenient  to drink sea  water.
It is unhygienic which is very bad for the health.

 Seawater makes up 97.3 % of the Earth’s water so only 2.7% is fresh water.

Though if water is not available on earth very much some countries have machines which can make sea water potable.

Therefore it makes a sense that we should never waste drinking water.

 
Imagine the time you are in the ocean and you don't have a drop of water to drink, since water is everywhere around you. But, you will not drink it because it is really very salty.


A drop of water is worth more than a sack of gold to a thirsty man
