Loss of a layer of jewellery leads to loss of weight.

Explanation:

When the gold ornaments are polished it is put into a solution known as aqua regia. This solution is a mixture of two solution which helps in providing shine to the jewellery.

The solution of aqua regia is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. The outer layer of the gold dissolves in the solution and the shiny layer inside is visible.

This is the reason the weight of the jewellery is decreased a bit after being polished by the goldsmith.
